This medical facility has a combination sloped and flat roof system. The old black flat roof at the center of the roofing system was leaking and needed to be replaced. Not only was it leaking but it was the source of too much heat gain in the summer, causing the interior of the building to overheat.

Customer needed a durable system to withstand the harsh winter. By design the building can hold a lot of snow & ice putting great pressure on the roof system. The flat roof portion is ringed with a 4 foot wall that can capture large heavy snow drifts in the winter and hold them there. During thaws, water collected between drains and over time weakened the seams of the old roofing materials. To avoid this, the roof needed to be properly pitched to shed water into the drain system.

After removing the old flat roof materials, a new framed saddle was installed to pitch the water into the drains more efficiently. Then a new TPO membrane was installed over the roof and saddle, including the walls of the central roof system in order to create a leak-proof barrier. The white color of the new roof material now reflects light and increases the R-Value of the building, keeping the interior temperature cooler in the summer. For the winters, heat cables were installed to facilitate de-icing. Now the medical facility is dry in the winter and cooler in the summer!
